Another successful round of discussions with the Australian Museum

Kainake team members recently travelled to Australian Museum to report on the conservation progress of endangered mammal species that are protected within the Kainake conservation area. The meeting took place after the conclusion of the first conservation grant, provided by the Segre Foundation, an Italian based philanthropic organization.

The first grant supported research to conduct population studies and identify a number of endangered mammal species that are endemic to the Solomon Archipelago. Of particular interest, two conservation flagship species were identified, that being the Monkey-faced Bat and the Giant Tree Rat. The Monkey-faced Bat is also named after Professor Tim Flannery, who is the Team Leader in the project!

During the meeting, the Kainake Project was awarded another grant round to develop conservation strategies based on the research outcomes. We are looking forward to another year of growth in 2018.
