One of the key programs for the Kainake Project is Education and Capacity Building. Through support from the United Nation’s Development Program, TKP has been developing training manuals targeting training for rural communities in Bougainville in areas of leadership and decision-making, project management, financial literacy, adaptive environmental management and other development tools.
Recently, TKP shared its experiences in strategic planning with another Bougainville based organization, the Rara-Rarei Foundation (RRF). RRF’s is a non-government organization that was formed in 2012 by university graduates from Siwai District in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville with the purpose of providing library books to schools in the district with the vision to support young people and build an educated society. This was deemed a critical measure in rebuilding lives and giving hope to the younger generation in the aftermath of a bloody civil war that claimed at least 20,000 lives.
RRF is staffed by volunteers and has been actively involved in sourcing books internationally and donating to primary schools across the three constituencies that make up the Siwai district. In 2017 alone, RRF donated books to three primary schools and also built a library for one of the schools (Koruma Primary School).
IN 2018, there are plans to provide books to eight other schools and also build another school library for one of the schools. With such ambitious goals and targets, it has become critical that strategic directions be developed to sustain and ensure that these projects have meaningful social and economic impact for the communities in the longer term.
TKP was delighted to share their experiences in strategy and community development. We certainly look forward to working closely with RRF where we exercise shared values and most importantly to ensure we contribute positively towards rebuilding Bougainville through investment in human resources especially young children who are the hope of our future.
